Week 10

A good week. Highlight was Sunday. I got up latish, and had a mini cooked breakfast: a grilled rasher of lean bacon, half a grilled tomato, and a slice of black pudding. It was gorgeous and all went down no problems at all.

I then settled down to watch a bit of TV. Match of the Day was just finishing, as was the Coronation Street omnibus. There was just nothing on, and as I surfed the channels I came to E4 and on was that Gok program, How to Look Good Naked. Now I had never watched this program before, it was just another women's fashion show, right?

By the end of that program I was a believer.

The story revolved around an air-stewardess who was deeply embarassed (and ashamed) of her body, despite her fiance loving her, and they were to be married next year. She had zero confidence.

When she got down to her bra and knickers at the start of the show to show us the problem I personally thought she looked gorgeous. I have always loved the fuller figure woman, not these Hollywood and Magazine driven images of lovely, give me Kate Winslet over Keira Knightley any day.

She was size 12-14, and had an amazing body, yet when she saw it it made her cry.

That Gok chap, isn't just a fashion and style guru, he really worked on the girl to show her how to appreciate her own beauty. He had full-size pictures of her on billboards at Gatwick and asked cabin crew, pilots, ground crew and passengers what they thought, and they all said she was gorgeous.

He gave her great tips on how to emphasise her looks, and basically stripped out her entire wardrobe and replaced it with all the things she wanted to wear, but didn't have the confidence to.

One thing that made me laugh though, and that was when he gave her heels to wear, and told her it not only made her taller and sleeker, it lowered her BMI too!

She did a great photo shoot, 1930's style pinup, just wearing a military hat, and draped across an American WWII jeep (her husband to be was a soldier). And by now she was loving it. Gone was the square fringe, in was a great hairstyle.

At the end she did a catwalk in a packed shopping centre, in the wedding dress she was going to wear, gorgeous hair, with long full extensions, (fiance blindfolded for this), then another catwalk in some very sexy lingerie, and finally she got naked (tastefully done, from the back, looking over her shoulder, to thunderous applause.

I was genuinely so pleased for the girl, and she said it was the best thing she had ever done, and to think, it was all there to start with!

This week I weighed in at 101.7Kg (224lb, or exactly 16stone), a loss of 0.8Kg over last week. This is better. I found that if my calorie intake dropped below 800 calories my weight loss actually stalled. My body thought it was in 'starvation mode' and slowed my metabolism. Getting above 800 calories by adding a couple of snacks kick-started it again (funny how eating more can actually result in more weight loss). Also, losing 2Kg a week may make you whoop with joy, but will almost certainly lead to hair loss and loose skin with that kind of rapid weight loss (again, the body reacts by slowing metabolism and shutting down non-essential body functions). A slow steady weight loss of 0.5Kg - 1 Kg (or 1 - 2 lbs) a week, is much more healthy, and reduces significantly the risk of hair loss.

Here are the progress photos:
